The Mansfield Fellowship Program—named after Mike Mansfield, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Senate Majority Leader, U.S. Senator and U.S. Congressman from Montana—is a first-of-its-kind program for both the United States and Japan.
The program will be based at the IES Center in Tokyo, Japan. IES (The Institute for the International Education of Students) is a global, non-profit organization based in Chicago with nearly 30 programs in 15 countries. Since 1950, IES has provided students and U.S. colleges and universities with high-quality academic study abroad programs that foster intercultural development.
Program dates are generally as follows:

*Students will be in classes with other program participants. All courses are taught in Japanese.
The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellowship Program seeks to attract and educate outstanding young people who desire a career in the Foreign Service. Funded by the U.S. Department of State and managed by the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center at Howard University, these Fellowships prepare students to enter exciting and rewarding careers in public service as Foreign Service Officers. The Rangel Program encourages the involvement of members of minority groups and those with financial need. In this manner, it advances the goal of Secretary Rice and Congressman Rangel to create an excellent and diverse U.S. Foreign Service that represents the rich range of talents and expertise of the American people.
Advanced Research Fellowships available to social scientists in a broad range of fields, including anthrophology, economics, education, history, law, political science, public health, public policy, and sociology.
Blakemore Freeman Fellowships fund a year of advanced study of an Asian language in Asia for American citizens and permanent residents of the United States who have a college degree and who plan to use an Asian language in their careers.
The Wolfe Study Abroad Scholarship was established September 1, 1999 to enhance the educational experience of Ohio State students, by providing financial support to participants in Ohio State approved quarter/summer-long study abroad programs.
The Suzuka English Fellow Program aims to enhance English language education in Suzuka, and to promote international exchange primarily through the fostering of ties between Japanese junior high school students and SEF program participants. The SEF participants will serve as Assistant English Teachers.
The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations has made it possible for ATJ to award 100 scholarships annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year. Contributors to the scholarship fund include Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, The Freeman Foundation, JCC Fund, JP Morgan, Japan-US Friendship Commission, Lockheed Martin, McDonalds Japan, Mitsubishi International Corporation, Morgan Stanley, Nomura Holding America, Shinsei Bank, Temple University - Japan Campus, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Mr. Masamoto Yashiro.
JCMU offers a variety of programs throughout the year, as well as hosts a number of Study Abroad programs from American universities during the May Short Course Program. Information on these programs can be found here.
Monbukagakusho , the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers five different scholarships for non-Japanese nationals wishing to study in Japan.
Annual awards for graduate/professional students at the Ohio State University active in research or study that contributes to the pursuit of international understanding and peace.
The CIC Foreign Language Enhancement Program (FLEP) provides scholarships to help graduate students take advantage of language offerings not available at their home university, but available at another CIC member university. Scholarships are intended to cover living expenses incurred while attending another CIC host institution during the summer session.

The International University of Japan offers graduate studies in International Relations, International Development, Business Administration (MBA), and E-Business Management. Its campus is located in Niigata, and is an ideal place to learn from each other and from a talented and diverse international faculty.
One exchange student is selected each year to participate in this exchange program with Nanzan University in Nagoya. Students may register for any course offered by the Center for Japanese Studies.
One to three exchange students are selected each year to participate in this exchange program with Waseda University in Tokyo. Students may register for any course offered by the International Division Program.
Two students are admitted to this exchange program with the International Christian University in Mitaka, just outside of Tokyo. The duration of the program is one academic year. This exchange program gives the participants from OSU the opportunity to experience Japanese culture and study the Japanese language in a supportive environment.
One or two exchange students are selected each year to participate in this exchange program with the University of Tsukuba. Students may register for any course offered.
This is an international exchange program based on an agreement between The Ohio State University and Hokkaido University. One exchange student is selected each year to participate in this program.

Scholarship opportunity given to 100 American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Stipend can be allocated to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year.
The Summer Session is the oldest and most extensive of summer sessions in Japan. Though classes are also attended by students of Sophia's Faculty of Liberal Arts (Faculty of Comparative Culture), the majority of students come from abroad.
Summer Courses in Japanese (SCJ) at International Christian University (ICU) is an intensive six-week program. that aims to provide a stimulating environment in which university/college students may increase their understanding of the Japanese Language and culture. In the classroom, the language laboratory, as well as in their daily life, students will have opportunities to improve their language skills and to develop confidence in intercultural communication. This program offers a direct encounter with Japan, its language and people.
The HIF Japanese Language and Japanese Culture Program is a university level intensive summer course that focuses on proficiency-oriented instruction. The program aims to help participants acquire or improve communication skills in the Japanese language.
In order to broaden and deepen research on Japanese culture and bring together researchers in a variety of specialized fields, the International Research Center for Japanese Studies regularly appoints a number of scholars from around the world as Visiting Research Scholars.
The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme invites university graduates from overseas to participate in international exchange and foreign language education throughout Japan.
This summer internship program with Japanese firms in Saitama, Japan. The program is offered in conjunction with the sister-state agreement between Ohio and Saitama prefecture. Undergraduate or graduate students in Ohio colleges and universities who have an interest in Japanese business and culture and have studied at least three years of Japanese language are invited to apply.
The OSU-Ichimiya Group Internship Program provides and opportunity to directly experience the day-to-day operations of a Japanese company as an intern. The program term is either six months or one year.

SPEAC, Summer Programs East Asian Concentration, are offered by the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL), in cooperation with the OSU National East Asian Language Resource Center (NEALRC), to accelerate your learning in: Chinese Language, Japanese Language, Teaching Chinese, and Teaching Japanese.
The fellowship is open to 15 educators in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia to learn first hand about contemporary Japanese society and enhance their classroom teaching of global perspectives.

The Office of International Affairs will make available funding to support international travel for: (1) pre-dissertation preliminary research; (2) doctoral dissertation research; and (3) research necessary to complete a Masters thesis (for students in those units where the Masters is typically the terminal degree).
The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program provides short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) for U.S. faculty and professionals. Shorter grant lengths give specialists greater flexibility to pursue a grant that works best with their current academic or professional commitments.
Designed for juniors and seniors in high school, this is an intensive, Internet-mediated course consisting of 10 virtual classes that provide students with a broad overview of Japanese history, literature, religion, art, politics and economics, with a special focus on the U.S.-Japan relationship. The program will select 25 exceptional junior and senior high school students from throughout the United States.
Awards in the Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program are viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program. Candidates should be senior scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.
The American Translators Association (ATA) will award a grant-in-aid to a student for a literary or sci-tech translation or translation-related project.
This is awarded to graduate students who are planning to research or study in a European country or in China. Students must demonstrate excellence in scholarship and an appropriate background for research or study in Europe or China (including the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and/or Taiwan).
The Office of International Affairs is soliciting applications from faculty who are proposing to (1) collaborate with foreign scholars in preparing a research grant proposal, (2) participate in a faculty-exchange program, (3) develop agreements linking OSU to major foreign institutions, or (4)complete a manuscript jointly authored with a foreign based scholar.
The Office of International Affairs is awarding grants up to $5,000 to support interdisciplinary lectures, seminar series, or conferences on topics relevant to areas of the world outside the United States.
